I have learnt a warrant of arrest has been isued for myself for 4 months paye/uif outstanding. I have now paid this outstanding amount. Do I need to get a lawyer to cancel the warrant or can I do it myself? What is the procedure on both?

Hi,
Please be advised that you do not need an attorney to contact SARS to confirm that you have attended to payment of the outstanding amounts.
I suggest that you should contact the SARS Legal Department and inform them that you have already attended to payment of the outstanding amounts. Since there is a warrant of arrest issued, enquire if a court date has been set for you to appear.
If you are requested to attend Court, then it is not necessary for an attorney to appear on your behalf, since you have already made payment. On that day, before the matter is heard in court, you will meet the SARS officer and you will have to provide proof of payment. The SARS officer will then advise you if it is still necessary for you to appear in Court to confirm payment. The SARS officer will instruct the prosecutor to dismiss the application for the warrant of arrest.
